The fantastic ladies over at The Frisky asked me to give them a list of nominations for their annual Hotness Awards, and just posted them up on their site!
I tried my hardest to not just list country music bands and lame answers like "I don't watch TV", and I'd like to think I nominated some pretty cool stuff. (Who would argue that the Rain vs Stephen Colbert Dance-Off wasn't the hottest scandal of the year?)
The last of my Grandmother's formal gowns to show you. This one is bubble gum pink! My husband dislikes this dress entirely. Double-knit polyester, great lace jacket, Pepto-Bismol color...what's not to love?! If it were a tad smaller, I'd wear it for a night out on the town! (If I could find anyone who would go with me, that is!)
This is her 'Mother of the Groom' dress from her youngest son's wedding in the early seventies.
Walkscore.com recently ranked America's most walkable neighborhoods and cities. Where does your hometown land in the rankings? And how much do you actually find yourself walking instead of driving?
My house ranks 14 out of 100, or "Car Dependent". I really didn't need to visit this site to know this.
The house were I was raised, however, ranked 51 out of 100, or "Somewhat Walkable". Somehow, I really didn't need to visit the site to know this, either.
Note to self: Do not binge on junk food first thing in the morning, no matter how hungry you are.
Typically, I eat breakfast with The Boy each day. It's never anything elaborate, usually some yogurt and whatever he doesn't want to eat of his cereal and/or fruit. This morning, though, I only had a few pieces of cereal; he was happy to eat all his peaches and cereal. So, like other mornings when I don't eat much, I just decided to drop him off at school and continue on to work. After all, I always have food at my desk.
Well, this morning's treasure hunt yielded four Hostess muffins in their 100 Calorie Packs (now all gone) and a quarter of a large bag of potato chips (also gone). No grits, no oatmeal, no cream of wheat. Just crap. And, because I was hungry and didn't want to go to Wendy's and shell out five bucks for something that really isn't good for me anyway, I ate junk food.
And now I feel sick. It serves me right.
At least I've got yoga this afternoon so I can kind of detox. I'll just need to keep drinking water to flush out as much as I can before then!

So, I caught the news about how 90s dance diva/pop singer, Cathy Dennis, is still making a living in the music business - not as a performer, but as a music writer. She's responsible for huge hits for Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, S Club Juniors, and Janet Jackson, just to name a few. I'm happy to see her doing so well!
Anyway, this news caused me to flashback of my high school youth. I had seen her beautiful 60s haircut and neon green album cover and fell in love with her. I got her debut album, Move to This through my primary way of purchasing semi-cheap CDs: BMG Music Club (which I'm still currently a member).
I think at the time, she had "Just Another Dream" as a hit single, a dancey number with that catchy line "is it for real or is it just another dream (just a dream)", followed by "Touch Me (All Night Long)" which shows off her dancing skills on MTV.
Once I had the album, I was drawn to her sweet lullaby love song, "Too Many Walls". This song, complete with the violin parts, did really well on the Billboard charts.... and I believe it was the last time we heard from her in the States.
I don't know what happened really, she disappeared as quickly as she appeared on pop radio.
Looking at her discography, I can tell you that she did release two other albums, and a greatest hits, but as far as I know, they were only a blimp on the radar in the US. I'm sure she fared far better in her home country.
As luck would have it, Discopop reported a brand new Cathy Dennis album called Sexcassettes should be out in 2008:
Her manager, Spice Girls svengali Simon Fuller, adds that the album has “a real contemporary guitar feeling” - which is less encouraging.
I don't know about 'less encouraging', but it should be interesting to hear her new original songs.
Dennis, from the recent Yahoo article, adds more details:
Actually, yes. I've been working for the last year-and-a-half with a band I put together called Sexcassettes. We're shooting a video for the first single, "Killer Love," this month, and I hope to have it out by the end of the year. It's more of a band sound than produced pop. As usual, I have no idea what to expect.
Since I've been so lazy these last few days, I thought I would write a post about something which I so desperately need, to do lists! So here are some great to do list related things!
