Do you ever read the "Acknowledgments" at the beginning or end of a book? Why or why not? Bonus points: What book contains your favorite acknowledgments?

Yes, pretty much every time.  I'm always interested to read the author in their own voice.  Curious about who they care about. 

I've been acknowledged in a book twice.  Once in the regular acknowledgments, once a textbook was dedicated to me.  I'm not telling.

I just today saw this post from Iris in which I was tagged for more information.  Like a lot of other people I try not to identify my actual self mostly so that my colleagues and students can't just find me.  Family and friends, however, pretty clearly know who I am.  Especially since I plaster my kids' faces all over this thing.  Sorry to be so late on this.  So here you go.

1) What was I doing 10 years ago?
Hmmm.  That would be 1998.  Wow.  I was living in Tallahassee.  Going to grad school.  Newly married to the mister.  Had two cats back then, Stan and Mil (now only Mil and the dog Wanda).

2) What are 5 things on my to-do list for today?
Breastfeed, breastfeed, breastfeed, breastfeed, breastfeed.  Oh, wait?  You mean five different things?

1. Breastfeed
2. A couple of loads of laundry
3. Wait for the new dresser to be delivered
4. Read and work on the book manuscript
5. pick up Monkey at daycare

3) Snacks I enjoy:

• apple slices with gorgonzola crumbles, vinegar, and pepper
• cookies—chocolate chip, peanut butter, ginger snaps, whatever
• jelly bellys
• skittles
• watermelon

4) Things I would do if I were a billionaire:
Self serving: beach.  I would go to the beach, live at the beach, vacation at the beach, travel to different beaches.  take my kids to the beach, raise my kids at the beach.  Lots of yoga (on the beach).

Serving others: figure out how to endow good organizations with money that will last.  no debt for my friends.  make other people happy.  gosh, this could go on and on.  is there ever a good answer to this question?

I am really digging this site I found, Shutter Sisters.  I love the concept.  I love that most of these women think that they are novices.  They may be novices but they take really beautiful fotos.

I have to admit that I really don't understand American Apparel's clothes.  Because I am kind of addicted to Etsy, I do own a couple of their t-shirts that designers have hand screen printed.  They seem to be pretty popular among the DIY, indie artist artisan set.  But I had never heard of them before I started looking at screen printed t's.  So now I' have been to their website several times trying to figure out what's the attraction.  Every time I go there I think I'm looking at odd soft core teen porn shots.  And so many of the clothes are just so hideous.  I just don't get it.  It's all a throw back to the 80s in a bad way.  Their t-shirts are fine, but there's not much else I can wrap my brain around. 

And then I found this...the Unisex Thermochromatic Sheer Jersey T-Shirt.  Remember these?  We've already been through this trend!   Wikipedia sweetly reminded me that they were popular in the late 80s and early 90s but back then they were known as Hypercolor t-shirts.  They were ugly back then and they're still ugly.  I guess they're betting that the kids who actually buy the stuff at AA are too young to remember this.  I guess it also shows that I am getting old and can't relate to the kids anymore.  Ugh.

T Rex in the Pool!

Moonpie didn't go poop yesterday but once in the morning.  I knew that when he finally went it was going to be big.  Well, he waited over night.  Nothing.  At about 10:30 this morning he had just finished a boob and was laying on a pillow in my lap.  All sweet, smiley, cooing.  So nice.  Then SPLAT!  GREEN POOP EXPLOSION!  It was so forceful that it came out the side of his diaper in a big wave and went all over him, the pillow, and then right down into my lap.  NICE!

I couldn't do anything but laugh as I stripped both of us down and got his bath ready.  It was probably the first bath where he was actually visibly dirty and needed to be cleaned!  GROSS!  But kind of funny. 

I almost grabbed the camera but then decided that it was not a moment that he would like for me to preserve for posterity.  I kind of regret that decision.

We had about 20 minutes of real rain here at the house today.  It was wonderful!

The mister is so sweet.  I suggested that we need to video our boys in order to preserve the cuteness.  He got us this.  In black.  It's so cute and tiny.  Just perfect for our purposes.  Thanks, baby.
