Moonpie has croup. Got it Wednesday night. He was home with me Thursday and today, Friday. He's also teething. Not eating any solids. Nursing all the time. Not sleeping whatsoever. I've got the humidifier going in his room--it's like a sauna in there. Poor little baby.
Oh and he's also crawling now. Just the last day or two as well. He's funny though, he does it on one knee/butt cheek and the other foot. He switches from side to side. The point is that he is mobile now and so we better watch out. Got to re-baby-proof the house now.
Wish us all luck.
Fevers have broken, like the first morning, blackbird has spoken, like the first bird...oh sorry, I'll stop singing now. Their fevers have broken. Monkey woke up good to go this morning. Moonpie had a really rough night. And therefore, I, had a really rough night. He stayed home with me today. Uneventful doctor's appt in the morning. His ears are fine. That's what I was mostly worried about. His fever was done by the time we got home. We'll see how tonight goes. I'm pooped. No daycare tomorrow. On my own with the two dudes again. Wish me luck. They wear me out.
Merry almost Christmas!
Spent the day with both boys home yesterday. By myself. Fevers for both of them off and on all day. Moonpie slept for 2 hours in the morning and then only for 15 minutes intervals the rest of the day. The evening sucked. Oh, and the wee hours too. He's a mess. I'm starting to be a mess too.
Monkey was pretty good. On and off with a temp too. I think his was all over by about 7 pm yesterday. Sleeping soundly now.
Doctor's appt this morning at 8:15. It's actually for Monkey but I'm bringing Moonpie in. Oh well, they'll have to deal.
Mister slept through the night no problem. I slept on the couch. Up and down.
It's 5:43 and I've been awake since 4:30. I just put Moonpie back in his crib but I don't expect it to stick. He just won't sleep. With or without me.
No end in sight.
Was awake with Moonpie until 5:30 or 6. 6:30 Monkey started screaming in his bed. The mister came in and reported that Monkey was burning up. So now I've got two kids with fevers. This is a first.
At least the big one is able to tell me what is wrong. Moonpie's fever responds to the Motrin. It's down to 99.1 now.
I can tell that I'm going to be taking two kids to the doctor in the morning.
Hopefully Monkey's fever will respond to the Motrin too.
That way we can avoid going to QuickCare today. Nice.
Moonpie has a fever. 101.4. I've been awake with him for an hour now. He's acting totally fine while burning up. Happy, smiling, playing, adorable. Hot. So cute with a wet washcloth on his head.
He had Motrin at 3:45. 2 boobs. He's wearing nothing but his diaper. I just put him back in his bed. Still happy. Eating Sophie the giraffe. He sounds snotty in there. I've got it too I think. This is his first fever/cold thing. He's had snot without fever before.
I think he's back asleep now. But I'm up.
Going to get my New Yorker and see if I can't fall asleep on the couch again. It's a double fiction issue so I should be able to sleep no problem. These are my least favorite themed issues that they do. It's all the same authors. Zadie Smith, Alice Munro, a bunch of men.
g'night, I mean, good morning.
I don't really understand what happened last night. I talked with the pharmacist at walgreens and he said that I could take sudafed and non-drowsy claratin for my sinuses and that if any of it did get in my milk, it wouldn't hurt moonpie. So last night I took both of those and because I had a fever too I took two tylenol. I got in bed at about 8:30. Rolled around for a couple of hours. Fed Moonpie at 9:30. Back to bed, rolling around. Mister brought Moonpie in my bed for me to nurse him at 1:30 and then put him back in his crib. That was the last I heard from him until I woke up at 6:30 this morning all confused about where the night went. Very confused. Was it the drugs? Is it the crib?
I checked in on him and he had turned onto his tummy and was sound asleep at 6:30 a.m. So weird.
And now he's taking a morning nap in his crib and has been asleep for about an hour and 15 minutes or so.
What is going on?
My baby doesn't sleep this well!
Have we turned a corner?
Am I jinxing everything by writing about it?
So confused!
I am totally sick right now. Totally gross. My head is full of snot. And because I'm breastfeeding I'm limited as to what I can take to help me. So...I'm on Tylenol. Not very helpful. Takes a little edge off my headache, but that's about it. Still can't breathe at all.
Wa, wa, wa.
Somehow the kids and the mister aren't sick yet. I don't know how. I took Moonpie to daycare today mostly to get him away from me so that he doesn't get itl. How is it that I think he's probably safer at school than with me. Yuck.
Not so good. The mister has been sick and weird since before we went to NYC in August. Monkey has been fighting snot and ear infections for the last two weeks. I finally got their sicknesses a week ago. Now, we're all supposed to be on the mend. Monkey finished his antibiotics this morning so I took him to the dr to make sure that the infections were cleared up. You see, I have reason to believe that the antibiotics didn't work.
Saturday and Sunday nights were horrible in our house. Monkey was waking up every fifteen minutes screaming. Just standing up in his bed crying and screaming. He didn't seem sick or feverish. He seemed needy but it was unclear why. And not needy in his usual way. Usually when he wakes in the night, if I'm the one to get up then I just rock him in the rocking chair in his room for literally 1 or 2 minutes and then put him back in his crib. These last 2 nights, he didn't even want or need that. I'd go in there and say, What are you crying about? It's time for night, night. Go to sleep. And he'd lay right back down, stick his thumb in his mouth, and appear to go back to sleep. This has never been the case before. I have never before been able to say to him, go back to sleep, and have him do it. So that was weird. Especially since he'd wake right back up 15 minutes later and do the same thing all over again. This means that it wasn't that he wanted me to hold him like usual, he just wanted to know that I would come? Or was it his ears still bothering him? Or is he just not feeling good? Unclear. At the same time, the mister has been getting up and sleeping with him in the guest room. When I think that monkey is sleeping well, it's because he's in bed with his dad, kicking and punching him for a couple of hours before dad gets fed up and puts him back in his crib. Then I get back into the game. Cycle.
It is now 8:53. The mister went to bed at 8, the monkey went to bed at 8:15--after the mister, yes. It's rough around here these days. Save yourself, stay away, get some sleep.
P.S. Update: Turns out that his ears are all cleared up. But he had a fever Monday afternoon and all evening Monday. It's Tuesday now and he's home from daycare today (and I'm home from work) and we're going to start another round of antibiotics for his new sinus infection. But he's acting really happy and vibrant and having a good time. Thanks for the good vibes!
- I've got a ton of grading to do this week. The kids in my two classes submitted their papers last night. It's going to take me forever to grade 60 papers. Also, I've got other weekly grades to compile for them. And a ton of people didn't follow the basic directions and that makes things twice as hard for me. I feel totally weighed down by it.
- I've also got to read a dissertation and have thoughts and comments on it for a student's defense this week. Haven't started that yet.
- I still have no voice and can't take it anymore. Going to the doctor today at 2. I'm sure that antibiotics are in my future. Not looking forward to that. But something has to change.
- My good friend leaves tomorrow for good. Going to try to have lunch with her today. I feel very weird because I haven't seen her at all in the last week since she's been buying her new home in her new city. Also, I don't think that we're doing anything "special" or whatever to send her off. She's been my closest person here for the past 5 years. I guess we're just pretending that nothing is changing. I'll be okay with that.
- Monkey might be coming down with the sickness that I have. Not sure yet.
- Talked with my mom this weekend. She went to Mexico City last week for a religious tour (she's way Catholic). It was a quick trip but it sounds like she learned a lot from it. Very overwhelming poverty, chaos, smog and more on her short stay there. She ate good though. Said that the people were great and so was the food. Still, it sounds like it was relatively eye-opening for her. Since she's read
The People's History of the United States, by Howard Zinn, she seems to have a new perspective on these things (yes, my MOM read on her own just because she wanted to learn more about this country's history! How awesome is that?!!).
- I think that you are now up to date on my life.
Wow, am I sick--I can't breath, I have no voice, and I can't stop coughing. The monkey must have brought home something from daycare. He seems to be fighting off a cold too, but not as bad as this one. The mister is also fighting something, but at least he still has a voice. I can't talk! (I know, I know, maybe that's a good thing to shut me up for a while.) Anyway, I haven't made it to yoga all week but I have done some work at home and in the office. It really sucks being so congested when it's 108 degrees outside! Ya know? Yuck.
